It also looks to have benefited from its acquisition of the US rival Verity last year. The $500m deal increased the group’s scale and customer base in a fragmented market.Autonomy said results for the third quarter, historically its weakest period, will beat market expectations for revenue of $58.5m and pre-tax profit of $11.8m. Earlier this week, blinkx signed a contract to supply video search capability to Microsoft, AOL and Lycos. Millions of users will use Autonomy’s technology to search for short documentaries, music videos, television reports and other video content.
Internet companies are under pressure to aggregate video content due to the upsurge in consumer usage of video sites such as YouTube, which Google bought for $1.6bn (£864m) earlier this week.

Autonomy’s Virage technology is used to power the blinkx video search engine which is best known for its Chinese operation, the largest video search site in the world. Autonomy shares surged almost 11 per cent yesterday after the company revealed that demand for its online video searching technology and its other search products has started feeding through to the bottom line. In addition, the new station will not require unsightly cooling towers and will feature equipment to remove all sulphur dioxide emissions and enable the burning of biomass alongside coal.Powergen has begun statutory consultation on the units and is conducting a feasibility study into building a clean coal station on the Lincolnshire coast.. They would replace the station’s four existing units from 2015, enabling Kingsnorth to operate at much higher levels of efficiency while producing fewer carbon emissions.
Powergen said the two new units would reduce carbon emissions by almost 2 million tonnes compared to the existing station, and produce enough electricity to power 1.5 million homes. The new units would also be built with carbon capture in mind so that if the technology became viable, emissions could be reduced to zero.

The company expects to apply for formal consent next month to build two new 800 megawatt units at its Kingsnorth station in Kent using “super-critical” technology. Powergen, the energy supplier owned by E.ON of Germany, unveiled plans yesterday to invest £1bn in the UK’s first “super” coal-fired power station to try to curb carbon emissions. It offers customers broadband access for less than £10 a month and does not require users to sign up for a long-term contract It regularly tops customer-satisfaction surveys.. Plusnet shares traded as high as 411.5p in March when the company commanded a market capitalisation of nearly £120m.
The talks could lead to speculation about a bidding war for Plusnet. German press reports last week suggested the German internet group Freenet.de might look to buy a stake in the Sheffield-based company.BT already has a relationship with Plusnet as it supplies broadband capacity to the smaller internet service provider. It also uses a piece of Plusnet software called Teleworker to service its blue-chip clients. The call management software, based on Plusnet’s Workplace platform, enables a BT customer to better manage remote employees’ communications needs.

BT has used the software since 2003 and signed a memorandum of understanding with Plusnet in 2004.Plusnet had more than 198,000 customers at the end of June and sales of £22.5m in the first half of the year. Mr Bush’s remarks, at an hour-long press conference at the White House, came as tensions in east Asia continued to escalate. Plusnet shares surged more than 18 per cent to 179.5p yesterday as rumours of talks emerged in the wake of Carphone Warehouse’s £370m purchase of AOL’s UK access business At 179.5p, Plusnet would be valued at around £53m. Industry sources said talks between the two companies are at an early stage

Both BT and Plusnet declined to comment. BT Group is in talks to buy the smaller rival Plusnet, the low-cost broadband supplier and telecoms company.

As Japan announced sweeping bilateral sanctions, North Korea’s deputy leader, Kim Yong Nam, warned that further pressure from the US might lead to more tests.. That strategy, adopted by the Clinton administration, had failed, the President said, arguing that the currently stalled six-nation process represented the best chance of achieving a diplomatic solution. “We’re furious about this test,” he said of Japan’s 270,000 atom bomb survivors “It means that more countries are sure to follow. Our greatest worry is that Japan will now feel it has to have its own nuclear weapon.”. As North Korea threatened to carry out further nuclear blasts, President George Bush insisted yesterday that the regime must face “serious repercussions” for Monday’s claimed test at the United Nations and elsewhere.
